An evening in the company of this enigmatic long poem. Sir Gawain and the Green Knight is a 14th Century Chivalric Romance in Middle English with an anonymous author. It stands in the Arthurian tradition yet has mysterious elements and an atmosphere all its own. Richard is a fascinating and very entertaining speaker well known to bookshop regulars. He has a way of opening up subjects others would leave obscure.
This evening Richard will be introducing the poem and its context, with readings of extracts from the poem both in Middle and Modern English as we go along.
