M. R. James. The Unforgotten
October 12th, 7.30pm. £5
M. R. James, ought to have been forgotten after a generation or so, like most good writers. And yet, his eerie tales of the uncanny and the supernatural continue to be represented to a mass audience. In the mid Twentieth century he was put on the telly! And then only a few years ago Mark Gatiss began using the retro/vintage appeal of those mid-20th century tv dramas as a hook on which to make yet more. In this talk we will be hearing about the man, his storytelling and his legacy down to the present day.
Jennifer Selway is a writer and journalist who previously spoke at the bookshop about the British horror film industry and we are delighted to welcome her back to talk on this brilliant and curious man.
